Classic Restaurant @ The Mercedes Benz Museum Stuttgart, Germany

When we planned our visit to the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart (Please see also review.) we thought we would be hungry and made a reservation at Classic. The restaurant is housed in the same building as the musuem on the lowest level and is connected via walkway to the Mercedes Benz showroom.

Originally we thought we could leave the exhibition and have lunch, but realized this wasn't possible, so we decided to have our lunch when we had finished with the museum.

We apologized for our late arrival, but it wasn't a problem. It seems we weren't the first to underestimate the size of the exhibition.

The menu was available online, so we had checked it already and knew what was on offer and had budgeted our lunch already.

The design was like the building, it is contemporary with a lot of glass and steel. Classic is located partly in an atrium and has also an outdoor seating area.

We were brought to our table. It was not directly under the glass cupola and floor to ceiling window. We were glad, because we thought thanks to the hot weather and intense sunshine it would be too hot there, but it was very memorable and relaxing instead.

The restaurant had a few guests sitting by the window, a family with adult sons, and couples.

Classic serves international and regional cuisine.

Our waitress was very friendly and efficient.

We ordered a large bottle of still water, one glass of Laurent-Perrier Champagne and a Hugo, Wiener Schnitzel, Maultaschen (Swabian Ravioli) and Ofenschlupfer, a Swabian dessert with raisins.

The atmosphere was very good, the food and drink delicious and high quality.

We paid 59 Euro (ca. 65.25 USD).

Of course we would return. It's in fact so good, it's worth going there even without visiting the Mercedes Benz Museum.

Lunch @ Balfes, The Westbury Hotel, Dublin, Ireland

Every year we try to have a pre-Christmas lunch. This time we went to Balfes at the Westbury Hotel, Dublin. We have frequented Balfes for breakfast and brunch before.

We arrived shortly before Midday and were brought to a table near the window.

The staff was totally new to us. All members encountered were friendly, attentive and non-obstructive.

All menus are available online, so we had already checked out what we wanted to have.

Choosing our drinks was easy, but what to have as starter, main course and dessert wasn't so obvious.

We ordered four Chai Latte, two each, one carrot, orange and ginger juice and apple, celery, spinach and kale juice. Later we were told that unfortunately the spinach was not available, but they could make an apple, carrot and kale juice, so I took that. There was no big difference between the juices. Mine was slightly more bitter.

We shared a starter sized chicken salad. It was generous and contained green leaves and guacamole.

Our main courses were two chicken fillets with cassoulet. We were surprised how light the dish was and the meat portion really large, but the chicken was tender and juicy.

A meal wouldn't be complete without a dessert. We had mixed berries with champagne sabayon and Banoffi with hot chocolate mousse. We know both desserts. As always they were delicious. We liked the contrast between ice cold banana and warm chocolate mousse.
The berries with sabayon were delicately flavored and well balanced.

When we arrived the restaurant was empty, but when we left it was nearly full. Having learned this, we might consider booking a table in advance to avoid disappointment.

Noise levels weren't very high, considering how many guests were dining with us.

Overall we had a leisurely lunch and stayed for around two hours.

The cost was 90 Euro (ca. 112.40 USD) excluding tip.

We will be back again.

Haagen-Dasz near the Amarin Plaza, Bangkok, Thailand

During our time in Bangkok we went twice to the Haagen-Dasz Cafe near the Amarin Plaza on Ratchamdari Road.

The interior is modern with a few tables. Staff is plentiful and they even recognized us on our second visit, remembering what drink we had wanted, but had been unfortunately not available during our first visit.

We had orange juice, Iced Milk chocolate, Banana Crepes and Hello Jello (vanilla ice cream with strawberry jelly, topped up with milk).

We were very happy. The Banana Crepes were on each occasion sumptuous, while Hello Jello was refreshing and light.

When we ordered two drinks and two dishes, we paid 754 THB (ca. 17.70 Euro or ca. 23.65 USD).

When we are in Bangkok again, we will go there for our ice cream fix.

Smöoy Frozen Yogurt, Santiago de Compostela, Spain

After our dinner at Newroz Kurdish Doener Kebab (see also review) we went to Smöoy for frozen yogurt as dessert. It's just a few steps away and interesting, because it has a white, contemporary interior livened up with a few color splashes in red, yellow, green and pink. There is also a nice seating area.

The counter assistant was very busy with a few people waiting in front of me. There were three choices: a small, medium or large cup with one topping, two toppings and three toppings respectively. The choice was huge from berries to chocolate to gummi bears.

We chose natural frozen yogurt, Dulce de Leche and fresh strawberries in a medium cup. We shared it, because the portion was fairly large. It cost around 3 Euro (ca. 4.10 USD). We must say it was delicious and loved the combination.

So there is no doubt we will have to go back, when we're in Santiago de Compostela.
