Travel Report Asia Part 15 Jeju

Jeju is an island off the coast of South Korea. The climate is Mediterranean and the island volcanic. It's also in the running to be one of the new seven world wonders.  The island is very important for tourism and agriculture, so if you have fruits, vegetables or pork at your meal in South Korea the chances are high it’s from Jeju. When we were there the cherry blossom was in full blow. The Korean cherry blossom is not as famous as the Japanese, but it’s definitely beautiful and I can only recommend going to Jeju in spring. The scenery is breath taking.
Our hotel the Hyatt Regency Jeju (see also review) is located on a bluff, overlooking Jungmun Beach. There is also the famous golf club with the same name as the beach a very short stroll away.
The way to the beach was quite steep, but manageable and worth the effort. It was sandy and a sunny day. There were other people, who had fun, playing with the waves or collecting sea shells.
When walking towards the resort center up the hill, we passed the Korea House, a traditional Korean restaurant, serving horse meat beside more usual fare like beef or pork. The grounds were beautiful with cherry trees. Sitting on one of the benches and enjoying the sun without ordering wasn't a problem.
After a short walk on the right are the Shilla Hotel and the Le Suites Hotel. We didn't check out the Le Suites, but were twice at the Shilla. The hotel is like the Hyatt or the Lotte self contained. The hotel had a large outdoor swimming pool with cabanas, garden, access to a beach, a sculpture by Dali, a Chinese, Japanese and Western restaurant, a lobby lounge, a delicatessen, meeting rooms with plaques, describing which famous politician had used them (including Bill Clinton), a water feature, a gift shop with jewelry, clothing (Tommy Bahama), perfume and much more, a travel agent and the list goes on.
The lobby was much more modern than thought with huge flower paintings.
We used the Lobby Lounge and had Mount Halla Juice, exotic coffee like Colombia Supremo or Ethiopian coffee, tea, club sandwiches and cake. It tasted very good and we paid around 80.000 South Korean Won (KRW) to 90.000 KRW (ca. 55 Euros / 75 USD to 60 Euros / 85 USD). The staff was friendly, but sometimes English was a slight problem, nothing to worry about, though.
The Lotte Hotel is out of this world. It is a very large complex and starts with a water feature with deer sculptures and a wedding garden.
In the lobby was some renovation work going on. The reception is located there as well as the concierge. There is also staff, which is ready to help, if guests are looking for something specific.
The Lotte has its own duty free shop. The shop is very large and guests can find anything they might need.
The Lobby Lounge is not far off. Every time we were there Jazz musicians were playing, adding additional atmosphere with the very high ceilings and views over the outdoor pool, garden and the hotel's windmill. It's romantic.
Dining at the lounge was roughly the same price as at the Shilla.
The hotel has also an ATM.
Each hotel, including the Hyatt Regency, offered Tea/Coffee sets. It included a cup of your favorite brew and a selection of cakes. We used it at the Hyatt and the Lotte and have only good experiences.
Opposite the Lotte is a Seven Eleven. It also has an ATM at the entrance and offers ready meals, one can heat directly in the store and eat there, and other goods one might need for daily life. The staff is very friendly and packs the items for you. English is well spoken and credit cards are accepted.
If you have donut cravings a Dunkin Donut is just a few steps away.
When returning to the main street and going right, we found the Teddy Bear Museum. We visited it, and it was good fun.
Photography is generally allowed. The only place visitors can't take photographs is the gift shop. The building is very modern with a pyramid atrium. A bride and groom teddy bear couple in life size is greeting visitors in the lobby area.
The museum describes the history of teddy bears. They have a large collection of Steiff, American and British teddy bears from the very early stages, when the animals weren't cute and looked more like a real bear would. At the time teddies were a luxury and prestigious. In the early 20th century some kids were lucky and got instead of a rocking horse a bear.
In one room teddy bears replaced humans, and the scenes depicted historically important events, like the French Revolution, D-Day and much more.
In another exhibition was the most expensive bear in the world. It was a Louis Vuitton bear.
Across the street is the Ripley’s - Believe it or not. Unfortunately we couldn't visit it, nor the Botanical Gardens or waterfalls, because my fiancé was sick.
We had a great time in Jeju, even though, EW had to spend most of his time in bed, but I enjoyed walks alone, reading on a bench overlooking the bluff and the sun shining, meeting a school class and their teacher - I received a compliment, because one of the little boys thought I was Korean, but obviously I'm not - and writing in the club lounge.
The weather was good, but a bit windy, making it cooler than it really was. If we are returning to South Korea we would return again to Jeju, because there is so much still to see including the car museum.
Look out for the next part, our stay in Seoul.

Travel Report Asia Part 14 Hyatt Regency Jeju

The Hyatt Regency Jeju is one of the oldest hotels on the island. It's built on a cliff overlooking the East China Sea. The building is round and has a massive atrium, reaching to the 11th floor. There is a pond with koi fish in the center with a lot of greenery and rocks. It attracts a lot of hotel guests, big and small. There is also the Island Lounge, Grotto Bar, Delicatessen and an all day dining restaurant Terrace Cafe located.
When entering, the concierge is located to the right, the reception to the left. The lifts are a little bit further down after reception. There are also three staircases leading to the lower level, one to the spa, one to the Korean/Japanese Omi Restaurant, one to the meeting rooms. The casino and a small boutique are located on the right.
The check in was swiftly. Our Regency Club King Room was located on the highest floor. We were advised that the club lounge was on the 10th floor, serving continental breakfast, snacks and alcohol free beverages during the day and hors de oeuvres and alcoholic drinks during cocktail hour.
The room was medium in size, but had a large balcony with loungers and a small table. The furniture was brown. We had a LCD flat screen TV, a large mini bar that included the usual suspects and a South Korean delicacy barley tea. We tried it, but it's not to our taste.
The bed was large and comfy. We also had a writing desk, where two people could sit, a safe, wardrobe and cupboard.
The bathroom was medium in size and had Hyatt Regency amenities. The bathtub was comfortable
Our room had side sea views.

The club lounge was cozy with sofas, chairs and high tables. The breakfast buffet was every day nearly the same. There were fresh fruit and fruit salad, coffee, tea, juices, a hot western dish (either omelet or scrambled eggs) and an eastern dish, congee. Both were very yummy. There were also cold cuts, smoked salmon, cheese, cereals, bread, butter, jam and Bircher Berner Muesli topped with exotic fruit.
During the day was a selection of soft drinks, water, tea and coffee as well as cookies and nuts available.
In the evening we had red and white new world wine, pates, smoked salmon, a spicy chicken dish and desserts. All were very good.

Our favorite hang out was the Island Lounge. It's romantic and overlooks the pond. They serve excellent rice balls in a spicy tomato sauce and Croque Monsieur. The special was Mount Halla juice, a type of orange, growing on the island, and everything around strawberries. Jeju Island is very important for agriculture and tourism.
There were three choices: Strawberry Sangria, Strawberry Margarita and Strawberry Chocolate Martini. The Martini was his favorite. I had all three, but couldn't decide if I preferred the Margarita or the Martini.
We also used the Delicatessen. The pastries are divine.
The Island Lounge also offers a wide range of teas and coffees. They also have a huge wine wall.
The Terrace Cafe had only open until 15.00 hours, but during summer months it has open until 22.00 hours. The Folk Village and BBQ are only open during the main season.

On one day I had a spa treatment. The spa incorporates also a fitness center, one small treatment room and an indoor pool. There is also an outdoor pool. Preparations to get it ready were under way shortly before we left. Of course it was April, so a little bit too cold to swim in the sea or the outdoor pool.
My treatment was a Korean massage and an eye treatment. It lasted for about 2 hours, and I felt very much relaxed and revived afterwards.
The changing rooms are large and have everything one could want, from sitting areas, shower stalls, toilets, hair dryers, shampoo, shower gel, body lotions, towels, robes and combs. The lockers work with magnetic keys and before entering the changing rooms the shoes have to be removed and are placed in a separate locker, the customer receives slippers instead. It's like entering a private home of a Korean or Japanese, where you leave the shoes at the entrance of the house.

The Hyatt Regency also has a huge garden and access to Jungmun Beach, a wedding chapel and beautiful views over the sea.

Most of the staff speaks English and everyone is concerned, that you are feeling well and have a good time.
My fiancé got sick during the trip (cold with fever and sore throat). The concierge gave him Tylenol and recommended to eat ice cream and drink tea. More about being ill in South Korea in a different review.
So look out for the next part, when I write more about Jeju.

Making Love

This is about a very young Sam. He is trying to find out what making love means and causes some chaos on the way.

Dominic Richards was having his girl friend Kristin Weston on his room. His parents were cool, at least in this regard. His father had taken him aside, when he was twelve to have a talk man to man. At the time Dominic found girls gross and couldn't imagine he wanted to do the things his father told him. Jack Richards had also explained contraception and reinforced how important it was to use a condom, when making love with a girl, not only to avoid an unwanted pregnancy, but also sexually transmitted diseases.
At first Dominic and Kristin had studied for their upcoming math test. It was easy peasy for Dominic, who could juggle formulas and numbers without difficulties. When Kristin's head was swirling, they stopped and turned their attention to making love. They were kissing, at first only short little kisses on the mouth, then their tongues were exploring. Dominic helped Kristin out of her sweater. She was only wearing a bra under it. They continued kissing, Dominic nestled with the clasp. Suddenly Kristin screamed into his ear. At first Dominic thought there had been a spider or something, but she was indicating with her index finger under the writing desk and really there was something or somebody. Dominic, who was light brown haired and had blue eyes, went to investigate. When he looked closer he realized his baby brother Sam was watching fascinated. Dominic bent down and with one pull on Sam's t-shirt had Sam removed from his hiding place. He was angry with his nine year old brother. "What are you doing here?!" "I wanted to know what making love is..." "You're way too young for such stuff!" His brother replied stern. "I don't want you ever in my room without my permission.  You just have broken privacy laws. I have a right to be alone or with anybody I invite to it. If you don't behave I’ll call the police and they are going to take you away!" Dominic threatened. He was nearly eighteen. The threat frightened Sam. He liked living with his parents and siblings, so tears were welling up, when his brother dumped him outside the room. "Dominic, I'm sorry. I won't do it again. Please don't call the police." "Alright." With a light slap to Sam's rump, Dominic let his brother off. He shook his head, when he turned his attention to Kristin. They tried to continue, where they had stopped, but the lust was gone. Dominic was frustrated.
Sam was still upset, when he found his older sister Brooke in the kitchen. He avoided the bedroom he shared with his other brother Maxwell, who couldn't stand Sam. Brooke was measuring ingredients for a carrot cake she wanted to bake. Brooke was a copy of Dad, only in a softer female version. She had lovely honey colored hair and amber eyes. A look at Sam was enough for her to know something was wrong. "Sam, you just arrived on time. Want to help me?" Sam nodded. Brooke saw the tears in Sam's eyes. "So, what's up, little bro?" Sam told her what he had done. "Dominic is right, when he's angry with you. You shouldn't sneak into other people's rooms and spy on them. Or would you like it, if I would hide under your bed, and watch what you are doing?" Sam shook his head. A tear escaped, because he felt he had disappointed his older siblings. Brooke knelt down and hugged her brother. "Don't worry, Sam, Dominic wasn't serious about calling the police. You definitely stay with us. We all love you very much. What about, when we bake that cake now, and when it's finished you bring two large pieces to Dominic and Kristin? Apologize to both and promise you won't do it again. I'm sure they will overlook your indiscretion." "Sure?" "I'm positive." Brooke behaved strict, but she had problems keeping straight faced and not burst out laughing. She could imaging her uptight brother's face, when he found Sam under the writing desk. Brooke was going to talk with Dominic about his behavior as well. Frightening tactics were never good in her opinion.
They were preparing the batter, when Sam asked: "Brooke?" "Mhm." replied the sixteen year old. "Do you and Tom make love?" Tom was Brooke's boyfriend. Brooke hadn't expected that question. She was honest, though. "Yes." "Is Tom kissing you, too, when making love?" By now Brooke blushed. "Yes." "On the mouth?" Brooke nodded. Her brother was as always inquisitive, and a talk about sex might be earlier in order with him. Brooke made a mental note to speak with Dad about it. "Dominic pulled off Kristin's top. Does Tom the same with you?" "Sometimes." Sam wanted to know why not always, and in order to have sex did one have to be undressed? Brooke explained sometimes she did it herself, sometimes Tom, and one had to be at least partially undressed for sex. "Why?" Brooke replied: "It's depending how urgently you want to make love. Being undressed is more intimate and comfortable than partly clothed." Sam was still a little bit confused about the business, but stopped questioning Brooke.
When the cake was baked Sam helped Brooke with the sugar glazing and decorating it with marzipan carrots.
It took a little bit longer, before Brooke cut two large slices for Kristin and Dominic. "Off you go, Sam, and remember to apologize to both of them." "I won't. Thanks for your help, Brooke." Brooke smiled and said: "You're welcome." While Sam went to his brother's bed room, her sister went into the other direction. Normally she wouldn't have disturbed her father, who was a quite famous painter, but thought Sam's interest should be addressed as soon as possible. Brooke knocked on her father's studio door. "What is it?" an impatient voice answered. Brooke opened the door careful. Her father's studio was south facing and overlooking the garden. Bright light filtered into the room. It smelled of paint, and Brooke liked the place. To make up for the disturbance Brooke had brought along a cup of coffee and a piece of the cake. In short words she told Jack Richards about her conversation with Sam. She left out, that he had shadowed Dominic and Kristin. Both brothers would have been in trouble if she had. Jack promised to have a word with Sam.

In the meantime Sam apologized to Dominic and Kristin. They forgave him, but Dominic didn't forget and remembered even decades later how embarrassed he had been nor that Brooke gave him a lecture how to treat younger siblings.

When Jack had thought about how he was going to broach the subject, he took time off from painting and looked for Sam. Jack found Sam teasing his sister McKenzie, who was four. Sam's father generally didn't get involved in his kids fights, only, if there was a threat of violence.
Jack said stern: "Sam, leave your sister in peace for a moment, I'd like to talk with you." Sam looked up guilty. They were heading for the garden. It was a sunny California day. Strolling was pleasant. "Sam, Brooke told me you have questions about making love. Where does your interest come from?" It seemed Sam had "borrowed" one of Brooke's romance novels. He had been intrigued by one scene and wanted to find out more what this love making was all about. Sam thought Dominic and Kristin were most likely to provide him with an insight. Jack overlooked Sam had taken Brooke's book without permission. Instead he offered to talk to Sam about his own experience. "Well, when I fell the first time in love, I felt butterflies in my tummy and was excited to see the girl. It's quiet normal you want to be intimate with your girlfriend or boyfriend. You touch and kiss. Making love is something very sensual." Jack explained how the male and female sex organs function; how babies are made and again stressed it was important to use contraception. "Did you have butterflies in your stomach, when you met Mom?" "At first not. We were at locker heads, but the better I knew her, the more time I wanted to spend with Mom and make love." Jack left out that sex sometimes hadn't anything to do with love. Before meeting Madeleine, Jack had a reputation as a playboy. She tamed him. Jack wasn't sorry about it one bit. He was in a stable relationship, loved his wife and had six gorgeous kids. What else could one ask for?
Sam was satisfied with the answers his father had given him and understood the meaning of making love, so there was no reason to look further.

Travel Report Asia Part 13 Korean Air

Arriving with the Korean Air Express Shuttle Bus from the Hyatt Regency Incheon (see all the reviews and what we have been up to.) to Gimpo, the domestic airport, we were dropped off in front of the departures hall and advised by the kind driver where to go to.
Orientation was a little bit difficult, because at the check in counters and screens were only the flight numbers in English available, the rest was in Chinese and Korean. A very nice airport employee made sure we queued at the right place and explained to the lady from Korean Air at the check in counter we wanted to go to Jeju and it wasn't a mistake. We were the only non Asians. There were a few Chinese Tourist groups and of course Koreans themselves. The airport is airy and light filled. We liked it. Immigration was easy going and we had enough time to do a little bit shopping (There wasn't any duty free shop, but a local convenience store). We could also learn a little bit about the historical music instruments of Korea, like a huge drum.
There isn't a lot to do, so when you check in 90 minutes before, it should be enough.
When we queued at our gate initially we were the first, but some pushy older Chinese ladies were suddenly in front of us. It didn't matter and we were amused, that they were busier than we were.
Boarding was done swiftly and locating our seat easy.
We admired the uniforms and beauty of the flight attendants.
Korean Air has as policy to serve only drinks for flights shorter than two hours. Ours was around ninety minutes. The selection of drinks was good, including alcoholic and alcohol free beverages.
The whole flight was very comfortable, and there was enough leg room for my fiancé’s long ones.

When arriving at Jeju Airport we were surprised how busy it was. It was also slightly crammed. The airport is old and not built for so many passengers.
The luggage arrived quickly, though, and soon we were on our way out, where our driver and limousine were waiting for us.
Originally we thought we take the airport limousine bus, but decided in the last moment to pre-book a limousine with the Hyatt E-Concierge. It cost 110.000 South Korean Won (KRW) roundtrip or ca. 72 Euro/101 USD. We were glad we did, because there was no English signage where to find the limousine bus and it was immensely busy.
The journey with the Mercedes S-Class took around 45 minutes and we could enjoy the natural beauty of the island. Look out for the next part the Hyatt Regency Jeju.

Cocktail Interlude

2 strawberries
2 maraschino cherries

Add the vodka, pear juice and cranberry juice to the shaker. Shake for 30 seconds, strain the cocktail and fill into Martini glasses, add garnishes to your liking.

Magnifique Le Apple

Travel Report Asia Part 12 Hyatt Regency Incheon 2nd stay

When we arrived back late in the evening from Taipei with Cathay Pacific (see also those reviews) we took the free shuttle service to the Hyatt Regency Incheon (see review of the previous stay, where I explained everything about the hotel and the shuttle).
At check in we were told we received a free upgrade to a club room, even though we had only booked the most normal room. The receptionist explained the lounge had already closed, but we could have breakfast the next morning there. We had to fly from Gimpo Airport, the domestic airport, after our overnight stay, so we bought our shuttle bus tickets, provider none other than Korean Air, at the reception, charging it to our account wasn't a problem.
There were some differences between a club room and a standard room. The club room was slightly larger and had a LCD Flat Screen TV. There was a window between the bathroom and the bedroom and the toilet had more functions than the one in our previous room. There was a separate bath tub and shower. The amenities were the same.
We ordered room service, which was excellent as always and went to sleep. The bed was comfy, the shower and bath tub, too.
The next morning we went to the club lounge. The breakfast was buffet style and had a broad choice. We had the option to order two hot dishes. We didn't feel that hungry, so we took the continental only. It was delicious.
Check out went smooth and was quick.
It seems unusual, that foreigners want to go to Gimpo, because the bell boy was sure we were boarding the wrong shuttle and tried to tell us we had to queue at the front of the entrance and wait for the Incheon Airport shuttle bus. Some confusion ensued and we missed the first bus, but the wait for the second bus wasn't too long. The stop is at the designated bus stop a few meters down from the entrance to the hotel.
Read more about Gimpo International Airport and where we flew next to.

Travel Report Asia Part 11 Taipei 2nd visit

During our full day in Xinyi we first explored the grounds of the World Trade Center with its numerous flags, then moved across the street to the City Hall Park and City Hall, where festivities were going on to celebrate the famous Flora Expo. Taiwan is famous for its diverse nature and butterflies. Its nick name is also the Kingdom of Butterflies.
After that we went to Taipei 101. On the fifth floor is the ticket booth, entrance is 400 TWD for an adult, ca. 10 Euros/14 Dollars. It is not allowed to bring back packs with you to the 89th floor, so there are lockers provided for free. A lift whisks visitors up to the Observation Deck quickly. The ride is ear popping. Unfortunately we couldn't use the viewing platform nor had great views, because it was a little bit foggy and quite windy. There was more than enough to keep us educated and entertained during our visit. There was a photo exhibition about Taipei 101, explanations how it was built, other high buildings in the world (including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai,  the ICC in Hong Kong and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur - we have been at all of them) and what one would see, if the views were good. Before going up to the Observation Desk a digital photograph is taken of visitors, and they can be bought on the 89th floor. It was 200 TWD per photograph, ca. 5 Euros or 7 USD. We stopped at the gift shop, selling merchandise of Taipei 101 and Taiwan overall. The Damper Babies were also available. They come in different colors (red, black, silver and gold) and have different personalities. I think they are cute.
Visiting the damper was also highly interesting. Every tall building has them to keep them stable should high winds occur, but normally they aren't visible or accessible. The damper is gold colored and massive. In my opinion this was the highlight besides learning about the tower.
There is also the highest post office and jewelry shop in the world located. We learned that jade and coral gem stone play an important role in Asia and what the difference between coral and coral gem stone is. Corals are living and don't grow very deep in the sea, up to 10 m, while coral gem stones aren't alive and can be found very deep in the sea. Corals have different colors from white to bull blood red. It can get very expensive. I saw one Buddha figure, going for around 4 million Euros or 5.8 million USD.

Part of Taipei 101 is a shopping mall. There are all luxury brands one can imaging, but also a food court with McDonalds. My better half had to try the Big Mac there. He reports back the burger tastes good. Opposite to Irish Big Macs the Taiwanese contains more beef than sauce. The apple pie was delicious and strongly cinnamon flavored, yummy. My fruit bag - in Ireland it would consist of apples and grapes - contained apples and the Americano was dark, strong and good. Unfortunately the staff doesn't speak much English, but we got what we wanted, so that's alright.
We checked out the only Sisley Boutique and Day Spa in Taiwan. The prices were higher than in Ireland, so we didn't buy anything there. The best prices we ever saw were at Seoul Incheon International Airport.
Elite Concepts is just around the corner from the Sisley shop. The name wouldn't give away what they are doing, but it's yummy, so much I can tell you. It's a restaurant/cafe. We had green tea milk, a rainbow colored fruit salad with yogurt and the chefs surprise dessert selection. It was really good. We would return at a heart beat. Another delight is the staff. They look like models and are very friendly. Fellow patrons were locals, a few couples, a mother with her small son and a few ladies groups. The English of the staff was very good and ordering no problem. Credit cards are accepted.

After being restored we left the Taipei 101, found the LOVE sculpture, and explored the block around our hotel, the Grand Hyatt Taipei (Please see review of it). There are T.G.I. Friday, several 7 Eleven and Watson's Pharmacies. Walking is easy and there are pedestrian bridges and traffic lights to cross streets. We enjoyed the bridges, because they gave perfect views into the streets and the surrounding buildings.

We loved Taipei and we are going to return at some stage, exploring more of this beautiful 24 hour city.

A second chance

Hue receives an interesting phone call from a friend. Is Sam really cheating on her?
He still loved her. Now he saw her kissing another guy! Jealousy ran through Hunter Mortensen. Well, he had no reason, he knew. They were separated and heading for a divorce on his request. But still... Studying the couple closer, Hunter realized his wife had a toy boy. The man in question was dark haired and around twenty five at least that was Hunters guess. He barely controlled himself. If he wouldn't have, he would have caused a scene and asked Sophia Isabelle's boyfriend to step outside the bar into a side alley... Instead his arm tightened around his attractive companion.

Another female guest was looking with interest at the kissing couple. Zara Barkley had at first not recognized the man, but he seemed familiar, so she checked him out again. Definitely! It was the fiancé of her friend Hue. Zara didn't like Sam Richards. She thought he was a penny pincher and totally unromantic. He had her embarrassed in public, too, so here was Zara's chance to get even. There was also a little bit envy involved. Zara wasn't admitting it, not even to herself.

Sophia Isabelle had seen her husband, so Hunter couldn't simply slide away. They were still on speaking terms. Hunter went to the other couple and introduced his girl friend Cassie Bonham. Hunter couldn't avoid saying: "I thought you eat fruit only pure." Sophia Isabelle and her boy friend were sharing a chocolate fondue and feeding each other with chocolate dipped strawberries. "Well, Sam has taught me to enjoy myself sometimes. Why are you in New York?" It was Cassie, a bimbo, in Sophia Isabelle's opinion, who answered. "We are on vacation. Huni and I went shopping, and he is so generous." Cassie nearly jumped up and down in delight, her big boobs were wobbling. Sam smiled, but inwardly groaned. As attractive as Cassie might be with long blond hair and legs, ten inch high platform shoes and large breasts, she seemed not very stimulating on an intellectual level. "And what brings you here?" Hunter asked. "Business. I'm very glad Sam had off, so he could accompany me." After a little small talk Hunter and Cassie went to a free table. Hunter chose his seat so he could watch what his wife was up to. Cassie chatted away, not realizing Hunter didn't listen at all. He followed every move of his stylish wife. Sophia Isabelle was brown haired, in her mid fifties and took care what she looked like. Soph - that was her nick name - wore always designer clothing. Her toy boy didn't seem to be poor either. Hunter had identified the brand of the watch Sam was wearing. It was a Rolex.
A muscle was twitching in Hunter's face, when Soph and Sam continued feeding each other and kissing. After a while they left and Soph picked up the tap. Hunter was puzzled. First Soph didn't take care what she was eating, and now she was paying for this guy? It was highly unusual behavior for her.
Cassie still didn't notice Hunter wasn't paying any attention to her. He was still fighting with his jealousy and realized Sophia Isabelle meant more to him than he thought. Did she really love Sam? He needed to talk to her.

At first Hunter didn't dare to call her, because he feared Sam was with her. Hunter tried not to think about Soph and Sam in bed. Of course his fantasy was unstoppable. Did she the same things with her lover than with him? Had they often sex? Hunter couldn't take it any longer. He rang the operator and asked to be connected to his wife's room. She accepted the call. "Can I come over? I need to talk to you." Sophia Isabelle played the ice queen, a role she managed fine. Her heart was thumping with excitedness. "Sorry, Huni, I have to get up very early tomorrow. My charge and I are expected in Memphis." Hunter felt angry. Soph used Cassie's nickname ironic. He swallowed his pride and asked again: "Please, Sophia Isabelle, it's important..." "Okay, but make it short, Hunter. I don't want to waste my time."
Sophia Isabelle changed her clothing in record time. She hadn't been lying, when she told her husband Sam and she had to leave early for La Guardia. In fact she had her wake up call set for 5 AM and relaxed with her book in bed, ready to switch off the light and settle for sleep within minutes. Sophia Isabelle didn't want Hunter to see her in pajamas or with reading glasses, so she hid them quickly in her wardrobe and put on a silk dress, shimmering dark blue - she had bought it in Thailand. It was figure hugging. To finish the outfit Sophia Isabelle put on black high heels and combed her hair. There wasn't more time, otherwise she would have applied make up, too. Soph checked the outcome in the full length mirror critically, but was satisfied. At the same moment the door bell rang. It could be only Hunter! Her heart stopped beating for a moment before racing.
Soph opened the door. Hunter looked gorgeous. For her he was as attractive as thirty years ago, when they first met. His figure was still trim. His hair was dark, only the temples were graying. Soph loved Hunter. Of course she didn't show any emotions.
He had hurt her, when he told her it was over, and he had found somebody else. Somebody, who had time for him and wasn't brash, unlike Sophia Isabelle.
Hunter looked anxiously over Sophia Isabelle's shoulder, trying to see, if his competitor was there.
"Come in." Soph invited him. "Where is your ..."
"Sam? He has his own room. He snores. I can't stand being kept awake all night, listening to that noise." That sounded like Soph, alright.
"Sophia Isabelle, I ... Well, when I saw you with Sam I realized I have more feelings for you than I thought." "You should have thought about it, when you left me. I'm quite happy now." "I'm sorry, I hurt you. I couldn't take it any longer being married, but alone. You and your work are inseparable, and I have enough of playing the second fiddle." "Ah, yes. We had that discussion before. Numerous times. You know how important my career is to me. Sam understands it." "I see." Hunter looked so disappointed, Sophia Isabelle dropped her mask. "Well, I might consider giving our marriage another chance. I'm going to finish my relationship with Sam immediately and expect you do the same with Cassie. I don't want any intruders. I also promise I'm going to make time for you. It's not going to be easy for me to let go. Sometimes I will have to work longer hours, but tell me if I should fall back into my old ways. Should you ever cheat on me again, though, our marriage is over. Understood?" "Yes, Sophia Isabelle," Hunter replied meekly, "when can I move in?" "Not so fast, Hunter. We are taking it step by step. I don't want to go back to our old ways. I expect we renew our relationship, so we will see how it goes the next couple of months. We'll talk about it again then." Hunter didn't agree first, but thought a bit about it and found, Soph's idea hadn't been so stupid after all. He could woo her and show how much he really loved her. He had only fled into the relationship with Cassie to give Soph a wake up call, but it had back fired. Soph had agreed to the divorce instead of fighting for him.
Before they realized it, the tensions were reduced and talking until late in the night.

Sam met a devastated Cassie in the lobby. He was waiting for Sophia Isabelle, who should have shown up any minute. "Hunter has just finished our relationship. Did your girl friend do the same with you?" "Not yet, but if Sophia Isabelle does, it won't break my heart." He replied and thought Cassie had different motives to feel sorry for herself about the break up. "Why not?" " I guess, you and I want both the same. Their wealth, luxury gifts and travel. In exchange we make them feel young again and attractive." "You're a gigolo?" Cassie asked. Sam nodded and seemed complete serious. "Yes, and if Sophia Isabelle should decide to get rid of me, well, I'm looking for the next rich lady. It's no problem at all. You should look for another sugar daddy." Cassie was surprised Sam had guessed she was more concerned with luxury living than Hunter Mortensen. Well, he was right. Both of them were young, good looking and to find another partner, shouldn't prove difficult.
Soon Sophia Isabelle arrived with dark eye rings, but very happy indeed.

Sam called his fiancée Hue, when Sophia Isabelle and he connected in Dallas for their flight to Memphis. Hue was cold and Sam didn't understand why. "Yesterday I played Sophia Isabelle's toy boy. Her husband and his girl friend were at the same bar as we. I thought maybe, if Sophia Isabelle and I pretended to be in love, it would make Sophia Isabelle's husband rethink the divorce... " Suddenly Hue was warmer again. "What did you do in the bar together anyway?" "It was half business, half leisure. We discussed where I have to be today and what to do. She invited me for a drink, because I put up with her mood for the last couple of days." He didn't mention Sophia Isabelle had made sexual advances a couple of days earlier, when she was drunk. He had refused for different reasons. First of all he didn't think his fiancée would approve, if he would sleep around, second he liked and respected Sophia Isabelle, but couldn't imagine going to bed with her and third Sophia Isabelle's and his relationship was difficult enough. When they discussed Soph's behavior the next day, she was mortified. Sam promised to tell no one.
Hue surprised Sam by saying: "You know, I don't like sharing you, but I would have understood, if you had slept with Sophia Isabelle. I'm pregnant and obviously not always able to fulfill your needs." "Hue, don't worry about that. I love you, and I didn't have sex from the time of Adrianna's death until I was together with Tuyet, so I can do without it. It's important, but not that important." "Are you trying to tell me you lived nearly two years like a monk?” Hue sounded amused. Sam smiled. "No, I did what probably a lot of people do: masturbate." Sam was drawing attention, but he didn't care. Having pacified Hue and restored the trust between them was more important. Adrianna had been Sam's wife, who died in a car crash. Tuyet was Hue's older sister, whom Sam had been dating before falling in love with Hue.
Hue admitted, she had been cold, because Zara had informed her about what she had seen. Before confronting Sam, Hue wanted to check, if Sam came forward by himself with a good explanation, why he was kissing his publisher. Sam's reason made sense. Knowing from own experience, how compassionate and giving Sam was, it fitted his character. For Sam it didn't matter, if he and Soph were sometimes like cat and dog. When he saw the chance to help Sophia Isabelle, he used it.

Sophia Isabelle and Hunter used their second chance wisely. They behaved as if they didn't know each other, tried to do something new together and rebuilt the trust between them. When Hunter moved back in, Sophia Isabelle changed her work pattern. She still worked the same hours, but started earlier, so in the evening she had time for Hunter. It was exciting and both were happy to have each other back and grateful Sam had played cupid for them.

Travel Report Asia Part 10 Grand Hyatt Taipei

We had arranged with the hotel, that they would send a limousine and driver to pick us up from Taoyuan International Airport. He was already waiting for us. The journey took nearly an hour, because there was traffic jam.
When approaching, we could see the Taipei 101 and the Grand Hyatt. Both are hard to overlook. The limousine transfer cost 2500 Taiwanese New Dollar (TND) or 61 Euro/88 USD in a Mercedes S-Class.

The Grand Hyatt is a massive complex with direct connection to the World Trade Center and the Taipei 101.
When entering, the lobby is a huge space with a fountain in the center and waterfalls to the sides.  Numerous photographs were taken of the Roman inspired fountain. It's really romantic and the heart of the lobby. Materials used are loads of marble and gold. The hotel is over thirty years old and was there before the Taipei 101.
The hotel has a number of restaurants and bars Pearl Lian and Shanghai Court for modern and traditional Chinese Cuisine, Irodori, Japanese, Bel Air Bar and Grill for steaks and seafood, Ziga Zaga, Italian, Cafe for Asian and Western dishes, Cheers, the pool bar, Cha and Lobby Lounge, a fitness center and outdoor swimming pool on a roof top, allowing great views over the city with loungers and sun umbrellas. The fitness center was also interesting, because it wasn't one room, but numerous rooms containing different equipment.
Our own bed room was large with views over the World Trade Center and City Hall Park. It was kept mostly in brown and beige and very comfortable. There were two chairs at the writing desk. It had a large flat screen TV with international and local channels. Of course a safe was also available and the mini bar stocked with a wide range including an American soda that was too sweet to our taste. In room dining is available twenty four hours. I had my best ever chili con carne there. It was delicately flavored and served with different condiments. The spiciness of the dish could be regulated by adding onions, tomato ketchup or sour cream. The light could be regulated at a panel placed on the night table. We had in room breakfast as well. The pancakes were very satisfying and set us up for the rest of the day.
The bath room was medium in size, fully marbled and had Hyatt's own branded amenities. There we found a bathtub and a separate shower stall in comfortable surroundings.

When we stayed at the hotel a lot of meetings and conventions were going on.
The hotels restaurants and bars are located on the ground floor and first floor, together with the meeting rooms.
On the ground floor is also a gift shop.

Overall we liked the hotel very much. Everything was in working order and even if it has a lot of rooms the orientation is very easy and the staff is attentive, efficient and friendly. English is well spoken. Only once we had an amusing episode with the cleaning lady. We were just returning from exploring the hotel, when she was already in our bed room and cleaning. My fiancé told her, she could take her time, because we were going out again in five minutes. It seemed she did misunderstand us, working faster the more time passed and instead of us she was gone in five minutes. At the time it was slightly embarrassing for us, but now we can chuckle about it. A memory we won't forget so fast.
As mentioned the food is excellent and covers all needs for international travelers. The comfort of the room and bath room made it a heaven to relax after a busy day.
The location of the hotel is ideal for exploring Xinyi district.

After two nights at the hotel, we had booked the limousine back to the airport. It arrived on time and was charged to our room both ways. We arrived early. Traffic wasn't an issue. Please read the review of our flight with Cathay Pacific. We flew to Seoul Incheon International Airport to start the last part of our holiday, exploring more of South Korea. Please look out for the next part what we did in Taipei during our second visit.

The Baggage

This time around we find out why Sam is difficult.

She didn't understand him. Since arriving in the city her fiancé had been impatient, aggressive and withdrawn.
Sam didn't want to go to the Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano Foundation. He remembered and it hurt. Sam's first wife Adrianna had died a few years earlier in a car crash.

Adrianna's parents had taken part in a foreign student exchange program. Adrianna and her siblings had grown up with young men and women from all over the world, staying between a few months to two years. Sam had been one of them.
He was American, born in North Dakota, but grew up in California. Adrianna, who had been born and raised in Sao Paulo, liked Sam. He had humor, was lively and mature for his age. Sam put it down to having tried a lot of things, and he had been an inquisitive child. It didn't hurt either, that he was tall and dark haired with beautiful green eyes. On the other side Sam's stubbornness, short temper and jealousy could drive Adrianna mad.
She fell in love the longer she knew him. Adrianna added generosity and compassion to her list of Sam's positive traits. Adrianna had black hair and brown eyes and was around 5 ft 8 in tall.
Once Adrianna finished the relationship with Sam. His jealousy had gotten the better of him, and he had punched her best friend Rei. In rage she slapped him and explained whom he had just hurt. Sam didn't give up, though. She couldn't avoid him, because Sam still lived in her parent's home. Adrianna could be as own minded as Sam and ignored him for nearly a month. He confronted her, when he was sure they were alone. Sam admitted he thought she was beautiful, intelligent, and she could have had any man she wanted, and there were men out, who were better than him. Adrianna told him off, because she thought, he was the only man suitable for her, and took him back.
From then on Sam and Adrianna were inseparable.
When they were together for a couple of months Sam was sure he wanted to marry Adrianna. He was meticulous in the planning and execution of his proposal. To be able to by an engagement ring, Sam had to save for half a year and invited Adrianna to the Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano Foundation. They were having tea on the porch of the cafe, surrounded by the beautiful garden, birds twittering in the background. Sam retrieved the ring box from his pants pocket, sank to his knees and asked Adrianna, if she wanted to marry him. She said yes, smiling and crying at the same time. Both were very happy. They wanted a small wedding. Adrianna's father Roger didn't agree. He wanted to invite all his business partners and their families. Roger felt sometimes like he was talking with a wall. In the end he gave in, but not without grumbling to his wife Maria Isadora her daughter was stubborn as hell. Sam's parents Jack and Madeleine agreed to pay for the wedding and the honeymoon.
Sam never forgot the first time Rei met his father. Nicolo, Rei's partner, was Sam's best man. Sam introduced both of his friends to his father. Nico shook Jack's hand and said something like pleased to meet you. Rei reacted differently. He gave Jack a bear hug and kissed him on the mouth. It left Jack shocked and speechless. Sam laughed. He had tried to convince Rei not to do it, but Rei couldn't help himself. He kissed strangers and friends, no matter if they were male or female, on the mouth. Jack believed Sam had set him up and took it with humor, when he had recovered from the surprise. Only when knowing Rei better, he realized Rei always behaved that way.

Sam and Adrianna spent three nights at the Alvear Palace in Buenos Aires as honeymoon. They had once dinner at Daniel Bondeaux's. It was the highlight of the trip. Adrianna had fun at Sam's cost, when she tried without success to teach him tango dancing. Music wasn't her husband's strength. They brought home loads of photographs and memories.

Sam was reminded of his more or less eleven years of happiness with Adrianna and the reason why he didn't want to go to the foundation. He didn't want to discuss his sadness and loss with Hue, who thought she was standing in the shadow of Sam's wife and was jealous.
Sam had fallen in love with Hue, because she not only looked different than his wife, but had also different character traits.
In the end Sam came clean why he had behaved oddly. Hue was understanding and said next time she would appreciate honesty from the beginning.

The Bee and Me and other stories

Here comes the promised trilogy about will power.
The Bee and Me is about Fin, some know him already from some of the spanking stories, trapped in a wardrobe with a bee.
Feeling like murder is a story about confrontation.
Temptation is about if you should give in to your feelings or not.

The bee and me

I was hidden in the wardrobe, and to my dismay I had a companion. The little beast, a bumble bee, was inquisitive. She had landed on my arm already, and it was hard for me not trying to dance and run away. She had alighted again. She was buzzing around me, driving me crazy. I'm afraid of bees. The reason behind it: A nightmare in the true sense of the meaning. A couple of years ago I woke up with a sudden sharp pain on my eyelid. It was swollen, red, and I couldn't open it. The reason of the pain was a bee. During sleep I changed my position and crushed the insect, when turning on my pillow. My eye looked as if I had been in a fight. After a few days the itching, swelling and pain was down, but I was fearful of going to sleep for some time. Since then I hate bees.
In the wardrobe the bee made an attempt to land on my ear. It cost me a lot of will power not to cry out and swat at the bee. I stood very still. My body was tense. The damn thing had by now made contact, her tiny legs were tickling and my skin crawled. After having explored my ear, she took off again, trying to escape. The bee wasn't the only one. We couldn't leave, because the rightful owner of the home had returned. I didn't want to get caught, stealing a painting, which was resting with my equipment beside me. I'm a successful burglar and only break in, if a client contacts me to do so. What do I like about my job? Well, of course one of the reasons is money, but I love to plan and execute perfect burglaries. There is also the thrill of getting caught or not.
It is important to keep a cool head, when a situation like this arises and to evaluate the risks.
Little beads of sweat were building on my face, because foot steps came nearer. I prayed the wardrobe door stayed closed. I don't like violence. Just in case I pressed very close to the wall and hid behind the clothing on the hangers. That left my legs still exposed. Quiet I grabbed an empty box, lying nearby. It wasn't ideal, but hopefully the person opening up wasn't too attentive. If he or she was, I had only one option and was prepared to use my choker or switch blade knife, depending on the situation. I hoped it wasn't necessary. Then it happened. I forgot about the bee, being concentrated on what was going on outside. The bee landed on my neck. I slapped at her, and of course she stung me. The pain was piercing, my eyes watered, and I nearly cried out. Noise, which I couldn't afford to make, because the person was standing right in front of the wardrobe. Biting hard on my lower lip made sure no sound escaped. I held my breath and and exhaled, when the foot steps moved away and up the stairs.
When I thought it was safe, I climbed out of the wardrobe and looked for the bee. When I found it, I pocketed it, picked up the equipment and the painting, and left through the main entrance, leaving no evidence behind.

Feeling like murder

Coldham Fintan "Fin" Noose III wiped away the blood. His father and namesake had just slapped him hard in the face. Fin had admitted he had never given up his dream of becoming a professional burglar. Fin remembered his promise from a few years back: He was going to kill his parents, if they should ever raise their hands against him. Normally he didn't break his word. In his imagination he was stabbing his father, and the blood was splattering everywhere. Of course his mother was screaming. Fin saw himself turn towards her, blood of his father running down the blade, she tried to flee, but was frozen on the spot. The knife arched elegantly and cut her throat. Fin returned to reality and forced himself to calm down. He had really a switchblade knife with him, but it stayed in the jacket pocket. Fin's voice was cold and calm, when he said: "That one was for free. Don't try it again, though, or you are going to be very sorry." His mother Beverly felt threatened, but started nevertheless to give her older son an ear bashing. "You have betrayed us all those years, stolen from us, family members, fellow students and robbed the military academy, letting somebody else pay for your misdeeds. I'm so ashamed of you! God knows how hard we tried to make you a better person. We totally failed!" "Oh yes, you have failed me!" Fin agreed. "Mom, Dad, do you think it was fun growing up here? I heard constantly how much better my brother was, compared to me. In your opinion I was difficult, unruly and misbehaved, even rotten! Well, I guess, I still am ... Anyway; it wasn't fun getting punished for the slightest mistakes, shouted at and being left out. You never really tried to understand me or find out what my weaknesses and strengths were. I hate and despise you for everything you have or haven't done to me! Both of you!" Fin was shouting at his parents, having lost his temper. He wasn't the only one. His father Coldham sprang up, grabbed Fin by the collar of his jacket and pushed him off the chair and hard against the wall. Coldham balled his right hand into a fist. Fin pulled out his knife and opened it with a click. "I told you not to touch me again. If you do, I swear I cut your throat!" Fin's voice was very calm and his eyes were cold blue. Coldham's face lost all color and his arm went slack. Beverly was crying. Coldham replied as calm: "Leave now. You are not longer welcome here. Go!" Fin felt like crying, too. He left, closing the door behind him quietly, but the business wasn't finished yet. Fin wanted revenge.

Temptation

When Anna Meadows arrived at the military academy, she had been nervous. It was her first job and she felt insecure, if she was made of the right stuff. The cadets at the academy were overall well behaved and eager to learn, so soon she enjoyed working as arts teacher. There was one student, who had caught her attention. He was tall, blond and looked handsome. Anna had always been attracted to this type. He was a good painter and very quiet. Once Anna witnessed a scene and admired the cadet's self control. Fin, as he was nicknamed, was putting the finishing touches on his newest creation, an abstract painting. Suddenly another cadet approached with a glass of water and deliberately emptied it over Fin's project. Anna saw Fin's face and was sure he would have loved to murder Cadet David Jefferson or at least punch him. Instead Fin said, as if he wasn't upset at all: "Thank you for adding your personal touch to my work, David." Anna didn't behave as if she hadn't seen what Cadet Jefferson had done. She gave him a detention point for bullying and of course lectured David.
From that moment Anna felt butterflies in her stomach, when she thought about Fin or met him.
Fin liked Ms. Meadows, but was too much pre-occupied with his training as burglar and with his lover Chastity to notice his teacher had feelings for him. If he would have realized it, he wouldn't have minded casual sex.
Anna was a romantic. She caught herself day dreaming. Fin and she were on vacation and spent a lot of time painting on the beach, visiting art galleries and museums, having candle light dinners and gentle sex before an open fire...
Unfortunately Fin was the whole opposite of what Anna believed he was. Fin didn't think he was able to commit to anybody or even wanted to. His career as a burglar came first.

On one occasion Ms. Meadows nearly gave in to her feelings. Anna was carrying a lot of books. The floor was a bit slippery and to prevent a fall Anna dropped her load. Anna was too much concerned picking them up to notice, who helped her. An electric jolt went through her, when she noticed it was Fin. Their hands were brushing by accident. Anna took hers away immediately, feeling as if she had been burnt. She mumbled a thank you and when they both stood up and were very close, she wanted to kiss Fin on the mouth. Anna remebered just in time where they were. She couldn't possibly kiss one of her under aged students in school. Fin gave her a puzzled look, but kept quiet. Anna would have loved nothing better than to gush out how she felt about Fin. In the end she was glad she hadn't been proactive and open how things stood. It was amoral to abuse her position as a teacher, and the risk to be found out having an affair with her pupil was too high. She loved her job.
The crush faded, when she heard rumors about a threesome involving Fin, his best friend and room mate and a much older African American lady. Her fantasies were shattered about a monogamous, sensitive and gentle Fin.

Cocktail Interlude

My fiancé is very passionate about the traditional cocktail hour. After buying a few ingredients EW got started with his own creation. The cocktail is inspired by the Hyatt Regency Tokyo, where you can enjoy Kahlua Milk. In this case the alcohol wasn't the main component. We thought the cocktail was so nice, we want to share it with you. This is for two people. Cheers!

Amarula Milk

Material:
Shaker
Strainer, if it's not included in the shaker
Martini glasses

Ingredients:
3 measures Amarula
6 measures milk (in our case half fat milk, but you can choose whatever you like)
optional ice cubes or crushed ice

Decorations: (optional)
2 Maraschino Cherries
or
2 fresh strawberries

Preparation:
Put the ingredients into the shaker, starting with the Amarula.

Shake for ca. 30 seconds.

Strain into the Martini glasses.

If you use the ice, add it before the cocktail.

Decorate with the Maraschino Cherry by placing it on top of the drink or the strawberry on the rim of the glass.

Enjoy!
