Travel Report Asia Part 14 Hyatt Regency Jeju

The Hyatt Regency Jeju is one of the oldest hotels on the island. It's built on a cliff overlooking the East China Sea. The building is round and has a massive atrium, reaching to the 11th floor. There is a pond with koi fish in the center with a lot of greenery and rocks. It attracts a lot of hotel guests, big and small. There is also the Island Lounge, Grotto Bar, Delicatessen and an all day dining restaurant Terrace Cafe located.
When entering, the concierge is located to the right, the reception to the left. The lifts are a little bit further down after reception. There are also three staircases leading to the lower level, one to the spa, one to the Korean/Japanese Omi Restaurant, one to the meeting rooms. The casino and a small boutique are located on the right.
The check in was swiftly. Our Regency Club King Room was located on the highest floor. We were advised that the club lounge was on the 10th floor, serving continental breakfast, snacks and alcohol free beverages during the day and hors de oeuvres and alcoholic drinks during cocktail hour.
The room was medium in size, but had a large balcony with loungers and a small table. The furniture was brown. We had a LCD flat screen TV, a large mini bar that included the usual suspects and a South Korean delicacy barley tea. We tried it, but it's not to our taste.
The bed was large and comfy. We also had a writing desk, where two people could sit, a safe, wardrobe and cupboard.
The bathroom was medium in size and had Hyatt Regency amenities. The bathtub was comfortable
Our room had side sea views.

The club lounge was cozy with sofas, chairs and high tables. The breakfast buffet was every day nearly the same. There were fresh fruit and fruit salad, coffee, tea, juices, a hot western dish (either omelet or scrambled eggs) and an eastern dish, congee. Both were very yummy. There were also cold cuts, smoked salmon, cheese, cereals, bread, butter, jam and Bircher Berner Muesli topped with exotic fruit.
During the day was a selection of soft drinks, water, tea and coffee as well as cookies and nuts available.
In the evening we had red and white new world wine, pates, smoked salmon, a spicy chicken dish and desserts. All were very good.

Our favorite hang out was the Island Lounge. It's romantic and overlooks the pond. They serve excellent rice balls in a spicy tomato sauce and Croque Monsieur. The special was Mount Halla juice, a type of orange, growing on the island, and everything around strawberries. Jeju Island is very important for agriculture and tourism.
There were three choices: Strawberry Sangria, Strawberry Margarita and Strawberry Chocolate Martini. The Martini was his favorite. I had all three, but couldn't decide if I preferred the Margarita or the Martini.
We also used the Delicatessen. The pastries are divine.
The Island Lounge also offers a wide range of teas and coffees. They also have a huge wine wall.
The Terrace Cafe had only open until 15.00 hours, but during summer months it has open until 22.00 hours. The Folk Village and BBQ are only open during the main season.

On one day I had a spa treatment. The spa incorporates also a fitness center, one small treatment room and an indoor pool. There is also an outdoor pool. Preparations to get it ready were under way shortly before we left. Of course it was April, so a little bit too cold to swim in the sea or the outdoor pool.
My treatment was a Korean massage and an eye treatment. It lasted for about 2 hours, and I felt very much relaxed and revived afterwards.
The changing rooms are large and have everything one could want, from sitting areas, shower stalls, toilets, hair dryers, shampoo, shower gel, body lotions, towels, robes and combs. The lockers work with magnetic keys and before entering the changing rooms the shoes have to be removed and are placed in a separate locker, the customer receives slippers instead. It's like entering a private home of a Korean or Japanese, where you leave the shoes at the entrance of the house.

The Hyatt Regency also has a huge garden and access to Jungmun Beach, a wedding chapel and beautiful views over the sea.

Most of the staff speaks English and everyone is concerned, that you are feeling well and have a good time.
My fiancé got sick during the trip (cold with fever and sore throat). The concierge gave him Tylenol and recommended to eat ice cream and drink tea. More about being ill in South Korea in a different review.
So look out for the next part, when I write more about Jeju.
